UGG Boots: Where UGG Boots Are From and Why They Are So Popular
UGG boots are everywhere. People simply enjoy the great comfort, flexibility and durability of these amazing boots. Not everyone however knows who to thank for these versatile boots. This is perhaps the reason why there has been some misunderstanding over the origin and use of the term “UGGs.”
UGGs is a term that has been in use in the Australian language for many decades. It generically refers to sheepskin boots. Sheepskin boots were worn to keep warm during cold winters. This was also a way of making use of every part of the sheep so that nothing is thrown out. The earliest boots which Australians called UGGs were probably no more than sheepskin roughly sewn together and placed over the feet and legs. It is possible that the boots were called UGGs precisely because they seemed ugly at first.
UGGs became more prominent and known to other people when Australian pilots began wearing them during the First World War. Aside from aviators, sheepskin boots were also commonly worn by Austrlain surfers. The boots warmed their feet right after getting out of the cold surf. It was actually one of these surfers, Brian Smith who finally brought UGGs to the U.S. for the first time.
Smith brought a couple of UGGs to California and introduced the boots to American surfers. Later on, the American company Decker Outdoor Corporation registered the trademark UGG Australia. Since then, many celebrities began wearing one UGG boot style after another. It was probably partly due to some celebrity influence that UGGs quickly shot up in popularity among average people.
Even without celebrities wearing UGGs and incidentally helping popularize the sheepskin boots, UGGs could probably become popular on its own. There is just nothing as closely comfortable as authentic sheepskin. The material has definitely transformed UGGs into boots for all seasons. UGGs are commonly worn in winter because sheepskin can keep feet warm and thoroughly cozy. They may also however be worn during the summer season. UGGs can wick away sweat and let your skin breathe.
One wouldn’t even have to worry about the UGGs styles looking like boots just for winter. There are now numerous UGG designs for any time of the year. Some of them will look great with summer shorts. There are of course, also a modern line of UGG casual shoes that are perfect for ordinary use.
Aside from UGG Australia, there are also other manufacturers that continue to sell UGG type shoes. These aren’t necessarily imitation UGG footwear since many companies are legitimately manufacturing sheepskin boots. Regardless of the sheepskin brand though, you should be certain that you are not buying imitation UGGs. All popular sheepskin boot brands come in knock offs.
Imitation UGG boots aren’t worth their cost. Boots claiming to be UGGs but made of faux material or some other animal’s skin aren’t as comfortable or durable as authentic UGGs. Chances are, you could end up with sweaty feet, torn stitches and ripped soles. In some cases, cheap prices are a giveaway. Extremely cheap UGGs may not be real UGGs at all.
